A lot of interesting intellectual discussions have been stimulated with the debate over why the Oscars would nominate so many white people and not one person of colour in any of the leading acting categories.
At a point, though, everyone would have to take a break from the seriousness of it all, and delve into its comedy potential- and Saturday Night Live did that brilliantly this weekend.
With a sketch on the ‘Screen Guild Awards’, the SNL cast mocked the seemingly racist undercurrents of the Academy’s choices this year- showing clips of movies with mostly dominant black performers, but only the white actors with negligible roles get nominated.
