The brouhaha over the nominations for this year’s Academy Awards is not dying down anytime soon- all the way down till the night of the awards.
The release of the nominations list was notable for the lack of nominations for actors of colour, despite strong showings from movies such as ‘Straight Outta Compton’ and ‘Concussion’ in the year under review. Compton’s only nominations fell to the non-black members of the crew.
With several complaints from black actors, including calls for boycotts; Clint Eastwood has given his take on the entire issue. The two time Oscar winner said many people never won an Oscar in their lives, so he doesn’t see the need for all this complaining.
“I don’t know anything about it.” He told a TMZ paparazzo who stopped him to ask him about his thoughts on the calls for boycott.
“All I know is there’s thousands of people in the Academy, and the majority of them haven’t won Oscars.
“A lot of people are crying, I guess.” He added, laughing.
Eastwood’s stance adds to the many who have spoken out on this issue, including Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, Spike Lee, Lupita Nyong’o, Viola Davis and Mark Ruffalo. He calling blacks cry-babies would not go over quite well with any of these, I presume.
