The head teacher of Opoku Ware SHS, Dr. Alexis Frimpong Nimoh, has come out in defence of the school’s decision to suspend indefinitely three students suspected of being gay.
The headteacher said in an interview that the students were suspended because they would have ‘corrupted’ other students into that lifestyle had they remained.
Three students of the school, who were alleged to have engaged in homos*xual activities, were suspended indefinitely by the school this week. The suspension came about after other students reported them to school authorities after allegedly catching them in the act.
The three students are believed to have been part of the Opoku Ware contingent which competed in the just ended high school edition of the Vodafone Icons competition.
Speaking to Starr, the headmaster brushed aside allegations that the suspension was unfair or infringing on the human rights of the students, saying that they were dangerous and would initiate other students into their world if left on campus.
“We didn’t want them to pollute others into it.” He said.
“You see this is something that they initiate others into, and they are very powerful and when you trace you would see that they have influence from outside”
He added that the parents of these students themselves were oblivious of the actions of their children.
Meanwhile, one of the suspended students says that there is no proof any of them are gay, but that the tag was heaped on them because they act ‘girly’.
“They have no evidence that we are gays…it is people saying we are gays because we act girly”. He said in an interview on Tuesday.
