We Need To Create An Atmosphere Of Peace For The 2016 Elections- Ohemaa Mercy

Ohemaa Mercy

We have started the year with prophecies of doom concerning the elections from some ‘prominent’ preachers, and the political atmosphere remains charged up; so perhaps we need more voices like that of Ohemaa to speak up.
The singer who ministers through song believes that although the country remains peaceful at this point, we need to make more noise about it to create an atmosphere of peace that cannot easily be broken- because the simplest thing can set us spiralling off into violence.
“Ghana is a peaceful country but we need to create the awareness that any little thing bad can create lots of confusion,” she said, speaking on Joy.
The singer added that a key demographic to pay attention to would be the youth, who are particularly excitable and can be swayed any way. So they also need to be nudged in the direction of peace.
“As a gospel musician and a minister, I think this is the time to make noise about peace. Most of the youth are doing nothing so the little thing you give them, they will do anything.”
The last two elections in Ghana were fiercely contested, although both ended in NDC victories; so the feeling of ‘do or die’ lies on this election more than any we’ve had in the fourth republic, and an atmosphere of peace is something we can all agree is absolutely necessary.
