Veteran actor David Dontoh has lived through a lot in regards to Ghana’s theatre scene. From the boom days of the 90’s to the nearly broken down sector we have now, he has seen it all.
Therefore, his words carry some weight when he speaks about the industry, being one of the old school actors who remains relevant in today’s industry.
Speaking on the Starr Drive Thursday morning, Dontoh noted that this government have done very little to help the sector, despite appending culture to the creative arts ministry.
“It is interesting that this time when we have been able to lift culture and add to the Ministry of Creative Arts and Tourism, one would have thought that is where it would have gelled and exploded, [but] unfortunately we have imploded,” he told Nii Arday Clegg.
Commenting further, he added that Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah was the President who did so much for the sector. Since then, we’ve had Presidents paying less attention to it.
When asked to rate them, out of ten, his rankings were- Nkrumah (9), Rawlings and Kuffour (5) and John D. Mahama (4).
It seems this our dear President is terrible in every aspect.
