The daughter of Ghana’s first President and former Chairperson of the Convention People’s Party, Samia Yaba Nkrumah- has picked up forms to contest for the CPP Presidential candidate slot for the upcoming 2016 elections.
Samia picked up her forms at the party’s secretariat on Saturday, after the party opened nominations in December.
Under new CPP rules, presidential aspirants are to pay a fee of Ghc 155,000- broken down into Ghc 5,000 for the forms, Ghc 150,000 filing fee, and Ghc 50,000 as a development levy.
After picking up her forms, Nkrumah told Citi Fm the reasons why Ghanaians need to be called upon for drastic change in 2016.
“The ‘two-party system’ has failed and I believe we offer the best alternative for a new way of managing our economy. We are the only party that is clearly saying that the conditions of the IMF are unsustainable,” she said.
“The CPP is ready and we are looking forward to a very vigorous and active campaign where I’m confident that we’re going to convince the people of Ghana that it’s time for a revolution at the ballots,”
The CPP congress to elect presidential and parliamentary candidates for the 2016 elections comes off on the 30th of January, 2016.
