Mexican Andres Moreno, officially classified as the world’s fattest man, died from a heart attack whilst being rushed to hospital on Christmas Day.
38 year old Moreno, who weighed 980 lbs at his heaviest, could not be revived when he stopped breathing in the ambulance transferring him to San Jose Hospital on Friday.
Moreno weighed 700 lbs during the final year of his life, having lost almost 200 lbs naturally, and having undergone surgery last year to lose the rest in light of a previous heart attack scare.
“The operation saw medics remove the majority of his stomach, around 70 per cent, and re-route a lengthy portion of his small intestine at the Mexico Gastric Bypass unit in the Arboledas Hospital.” Daily Mail reports.
“The procedure is used to reduce meal quantities and the absorption of calories from food.”
“Andres died at 8.30am on Christmas Day in an ambulance from a heart attack as he was taken from his house to San Jose Hospital,” his publicist Carmen Palacios said in a statement confirming the news.
Moreno was working diligently to reduce his weight, but circumstances seemed to have overtaken him. Last month, Cristiano Ronaldo sent him a signed Real Madrid shirt with well wishes and a hope to see him get healthy again.
