Wisa must have partly achieved what he wanted when he decided to show everyone his dingdong at this year’s Decemba 2 Rememba concert.
He is on everyone’s lips now, so he can be said to have succeeded if that was his aim. If he was simply high, as many suspect- maybe he might want to reconsider his ‘preparations’ the next time he has a performance.
Citi Fm though, as organisers, hold a certain responsibility for the way things turn out. And as GhanaCelebrities.Com editor Chris-Vincent Agyapong Febiri noted in an excellent piece this morning titled, “Ghana Police Should ARREST Musician-Wisa for Violating Section 278 of the Criminal Offences Act At Citi Fm’s Decemba2Rememba Concert”, Citi Fm have been negligent, especially as this is not the first time an act of such indecency has happened at one of their concerts.
Chris-Vincent wrote that: “Of course Wisa’s conduct on stage is gross, unacceptable and perhaps the most disturbing stage disorder we’ve seen in Ghana- and it clearly puts concert organisers in the conversation too.
“Are organisers of events in Ghana unable to regulate the conduct of those they employ? It was the full responsibility of Citi Fm to ensure that stage ‘bushwa’ did not happen and they clearly failed. This brings to mind Charter House’s own inability to camp Chris Brown’s behaviour when he performed in Ghana.
“This is not the first time Citi Fm’s Decemba2Rememba concert has served patrons a deranged experience (in 2011, Ghanaian musician Raquel became the talk of the country when she put her coochie on full display while on stage)– albeit I would say, this is the first someone ought to be legally held responsible for his gross conduct (the musician) and obvious incompetence (the organisers).”
With a possible lawsuit hanging around their necks, and possibly a loss of reputation- Citi Fm has moved quickly to distance themselves. In a statement signed by Jessica Opare Saforo, the station condemns Wisa’s actions, apologises to Ghanaians, and calls on the police to take over the matter.
Read the statement below…
December 25, 2015, Accra — At the 2015 edition of Citi FM’s Decemba 2 Rememba concert held Thursday December 24, 2015, an unimaginable and despicable act took place on stage during a live performance by Wisa of the ‘Ekiki me’ fame much to the chagrin of patrons of the heavily-attended annual show.
In a shocking moment of temporary insanity, Wisa pulled out his manhood in an extremely offensive stage act that outraged the full-to-capacity crowd at the Accra International Conference Centre, venue for the concert.
Although one of the MCs for the night, Osei Kwame, took pains to immediately condemn Wisa’s egregious conduct, the management of the station finds it extremely important to — in this statement — emphasize our condemnation of the artiste’s behaviour, which, by all accounts, is profoundly incompatible with the Citi FM brand.
By this statement, the management of Omni Media Limited, owners of Citi 97.3 FM, is condemning in the strongest terms possible, the artiste’s reprehensible conduct, the videos of which have since been widely circulated on social media.
For the avoidance of doubt, Citi FM is a law abiding radio brand and does not in any way endorse morally offensive and illegal acts that seek to bring the station’s name and the Decemba 2 Rememba franchise into disrepute.
Our lawyers have advised us that Wisa’s conduct potentially violated the nation’s criminal code and we believe same to be true. We therefore urge the Police administration to investigate Wisa’s conduct and to take every lawful step necessary to bring him to justice.
Our sincere apologies to all Decemba 2 Rememba patrons and all showbiz lovers who have seen the shocking videos of Wisa’s misconduct. And to all Ghanaians, we are sorry.
By this statement, we wish to state that we will take elaborate steps to ensure that offensive and unlawful stage conducts of the kind exhibited by Wisa on Thursday do not happen during future editions of the annual concert.
We wish all Citi 97.3 FM loyalists and Decemba 2 Rememba patrons a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
Signed
