ECG has in recent times been carrying out this initiative to grab those using several illegal methods to dodge having to pay their bills. This is the second time the story of a pastor caught in this web has hit the news.
Michael Mensah was arrested in East Legon for using illegal connection to run his church last month, and it is now the turn of Reverend Kwame Boateng to face the law for a similar crime.
God really has a lot of patience for these charlatans- it’s almost like he cannot do jack about what they are doing.
Rev. Min Kwame Boateng is the head pastor New Life Baptist Rock Assemblies in Accra, and was arrested by the special taskforce of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), for using illegal connection to run a compound he owns.
According to Starrfmonline, the task force’s investigations showed that the compound belonging to the pastor had bypassed the meter, with the illegal connection running seven single rooms and six shops on the compound.
The unpaid bills accumulating from these, the company pegs at Ghc 19,162.62. The caretaker of the house, Kwame Amoako, was also arrested for the same offence. He had actually been taking money from the tenants for electricity bill but never paid to ECG.
The two were arraigned before court, where they pleaded not guilty. The case has been adjourned to January 9, 2016.
The pastor has apparently paid Gh¢ 12,940 of the money back to ECG.
