Middleweight Gabriel Rosado, looking for his first win in five bouts, outpointed Ghanaian Joshua Clottey, picking up a unanimous point decision in their fight at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino in Verona, New York.
Rosado won on all three judges’ scorecards, wining 96-94, 97-93 and 97-93. Former world champion Clottey started the brighter of the two, but faltered in later rounds.
Rosado was attempting a big comeback, having lost his four previous boxing bouts. The fight, at middleweight (158 Ibs), meant Clottey had to move up in weight.
The Ghanaian ((39-5, 22 KOs), started the stronger of the two, shading the first few rounds. Rosado, though, picked up steam as the fight wore on, and out boxed the smaller, older, Clottey in the final rounds.
Clottey, 38, is a former world champion at welterweight, and lost his biggest fight to Manny Pacquiao, later coming to complain about some okro stuff.
He said after the bout that middleweight proved too much for him, thus he is moving back to junior middleweight (154 Ibs)
