Slice of Princess Diana’s Wedding Cake Sells At Auction For $1,375

Princess Diana and Prince Charles

The sudden and tragic death of Diana, Princess of Wales, was a sad affair for the British public and many more across the globe, as she was widely beloved.

She married Prince Charles on July 29, 1981, and a slice of the cake from their glamorous wedding has been preserved since, and was placed on auction in Los Angeles on Thursday (December 17).

“It is a classic British fruitcake with cream cheese frosting and was made by the Naval Armed Forces.” The description for the auction said. It had been wrapped up and kept in an ornamental box since the day of the wedding, and amazingly remains edible.

“Alcohol has preserved the cake making it still edible, although collectors would rather it remain intact,” a representative for the auction house told MailOnline.

Although expected to sell in the region of $4,000, the winning bid was actually $1,375. Still, for a slice of cake from 1981 that is going to sit in a box, that’s a pretty outrageous price.
