Korle-Gonno
Korle-Gonno is a township located right in the heart of the city centre. The eponymous Korle Lagoon, one of Ghana’s most polluted water bodies, stands out the most in the vicinity: lending its name to the town (Korle hill), and the hospital (Korle valley)
The town, just a few minutes’ drive from the Central Business District, is a ‘true’ Accra town, lying as it does astride communities like Chorkor and Jamestown.
The Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Ghana’s premiere medical facility, lies within the town’s catchment area. The hospital is Ghana’s leading medical referral facility, and one of the most well equipped on the continent. The thriving township exists symbiotically alongside the hospital in a fascinating, urban melting pot.
The Korle-Bu Youth choir proudly emanates from this town, formed by Erasmus Gborgbotsi in 2004. The choir has grown from strength to strength since, having graced a few national occasions alongside the National Orchestra.
