Edward Mahama, a Gynaecologist who somewhat became the face of PNC after having contested the 1996, 2004 and 2008 presidential elections as the party’s flagbearer has returned once again.
Mahama has beaten Hassan Ayariga who was PNC’s flagbearer for the 2012 presidential election—which means, for the 4th time, Edward Mahama will be chasing his dream to become the president of Ghana on the ticket of PNC.
At a delegates congress held at the Upper West region, Edward Mahama scored 492 votes as against Hassan Ayariga’s 426 votes to emerged as the the flagbearer.
The congress was without chaos—as reports say gunshots were heard and police have arrested several people in relation to disorder.
Former general secretary of the party-Bernard Monah has also been elected as the national chairman, Issahaque Awudulai is now the party’s youth organiser with Desmond Ntow taking the national organiser job.
Michael Wombeogo has been elected as the party’s 1st national vice chairman, Henry Asante as 2nd vice and Hajia Hajara Ali as 3rd vice.
Atik Mohammed is now the general secretary and Janet Nabla was elected as women’s organiser.
In all, 1,536 delegates took part in the voting at the congress.
