This year’s X-Factor has been rated the worst ever and unsurprisingly, we’ve come to the worst ever finals—with 3 musically unstable contestants battling each other to confuse viewers as to who to vote for.
The X-Factor finals (part one) which will take place tomorrow would best be described as a battle of 3 finalists, each with strong musical flaws—and as such, UK viewers would be compelled to vote to pick the two less worst finalists to make it to Sunday’s finals (part two).
While most Ghanaians are hopeful and perhaps are even praying for ‘Reggie n Bollie’ to win the 2015 X-Factor simply because they are their countrymen—the truth is, ‘Reggie n Bollie’ stands for everything X-Factor rejects.
Therefore, winning X-Factor will besmirch the long standing reputation of the reality TV show.
First of all, how ‘Reggie n Bollie’ got to the finals remains shocking to many of the show’s esteemed critics—because, they are not X-Factor materials and reasonably, by the second week, they should have been kicked out.
But then, they are here—so if you believe in God and miracles, this is the time to note a derailed happening and label it as a miracle.
X-Factor is a singing competition: and all the winners we’ve seen since 2004 confirm this well established principle of the show. Obviously, the show takes into consideration stage performance, personality and other factors but these are auxiliary to the core tenet: a winner must be able to SING.
And ‘Reggie n Bollie’ cannot sing—they’ve managed to metaphorically and literally jump from their audition, right throughout the show to the finals.
It’s a talent competition that places strong emphasis on singing, which means it’s a person’s vocal ability that should guide voters—but as independent bill payers, this year’s voters seem to have bought into Reggie n Bollie’s smooth entertainment, forgetting that it’s X-Factor and not ‘British Got Talent.’
Even if Reggie and Bollie are able to manipulate voters once again with another electrifying stage jumping, backed by no singing—the big question remains; what song would they be producing for the British public to steal the Christmas number one spot?
Don’t say Afrobeat because I don’t think Simon Cowell is ready to throw a million pound contract on the back of Afrobeat with his first target market being Britain.
Reggie n Bollie have done incredibly well to get to the finals, but whatever they have been running on can’t fetch them an X-Factor win—for me, it will be utterly unfair to the pillars of the show and somewhat disastrous if they win.
With ‘Reggie n Bollie’ out of the possible winning box, we have Louisa Johnson and Che Chesterman to kick each other around their displaced vocal notes.
Louisa can sing, but she can’t seem to hold her vocal notes together. She has an X-Factor winning voice but she lacks that needed bold personality or charisma. In essence, she lacks the extra factor, beyond her disjointed beautiful voice.
Che Chesterman can sing but not as good as Louisa—and ‘Reggie n Bollie’ are not his competition. He has been hanging in there and notably, he struggles with stage coordination and cannot really impress with his performance.
Among the worst finalists in the worst X-Factor ever, Louisa Johnson is the lesser evil and therefore deserves to win—but since this is the worst ever X-Factor, why don’t voters push for ‘Reggie n Bollie’ so we will all know X-Factor has finally hit a bottomless pit?
The songs the finalists will be performing tomorrow have been announced.
According to the Telegraph, “each act will sing two songs plus a duet on Saturday.”
After a finalist has been kicked out tomorrow, “the remaining two acts will sing the winner’s song (assumed to be Bob Dylan’s Forever Young) plus their song of the series.”
This is how Saturday’s line-up looks like:
Ché Chesterman
• In The Air Tonight – Phil Collins
• Valerie – Mark Ronson Ft. Amy Winehouse
• Duet with TBA
Louisa Johnson
• Fighter – Christina Aguilera
• I Believe I Can Fly – R Kelly
• Duet with Rita Ora
Reggie ‘N’ Bollie
• Spice Up Your Life / Boom Boom Boom – Spice Girls / Outhere Brothers
• Jump – Kriss Kross
• Duet with TBA (could it be Cheryl?)
Remember, we are looking for the next pop star…
