Several Ghanaian footballers were miracle babies—it’s either they look far older than the age they put out there or their own parents do not even know their real age. And the latest is, when it comes to football, a person can be called Kwadwo and still be born on Friday.
From a Facebook tip off, GhanaCelebrities.Com decided to check what the public records hold as the date of birth of Ghanaian footballer-Kwadwo Asamoah. We found that, his date of birth is recorded as December 9, 1988 by all including the UEFA.
But there’s a problem—this day is a FRIDAY, which means he should rather be called Kofi if indeed he was born on that day per Ghana’s Akan naming tradition.
In Ghana, a person born on Friday is called Kofi (if a boy and Afia if a girl). For someone to be called Kwadwo, he must have been born on Monday. And that’s why we are confused.
Things can really get interesting with these footballers; and perhaps, we better stop looking into their affairs or else we won’t get anyone to play for the National team again.
Probably there is an interesting explanation for this—such as he was named after someone born on Monday.
Recently, the father of Baffour Gyan (who is a senior brother of Asamoah Gyan) stated on radio that his son-Baffour Gyan is 36 years old when his football records said he is 35.
