Over 800,000 Opening Week Sales Is A UK Record For Adele’s New Album ‘25’

Adele

Adele’s first single from her new album, ‘Hello’, broke so many records, it is now clear it was just a precursor for what 25 would do.

Adele’s third studio album, which was released a couple weeks ago, is now breaking chart records left and right worldwide.

With over 800,000 opening week sales, ‘25’ sets a new UK record- toppling Oasis’s 1997 record of 697,000.

25 also became the first album to sell more than 100,000 downloads in a week.

Official Charts Company chief executive Martin Talbot said: “The statistics surrounding the album are staggering.”, according to the BBC.

“No album has ever sold 800,000 copies to reach number one in the history of British music.”

Over in the US, 25 sold more than three million copies in one week, also beating a record held by Nsync’s 2000 classic, ‘No Strings Attached’

-More than 300,000 people bought 25 on its first day of release.

-Ed Sheeran held the previous record for weekly digital album sales, with 95,709. Adele’s 25 has eclipsed that with 252,423 downloads.
