Asamoah Gyan Cuts Sod For Construction Of An Artificial Pitch At His Former School Accra Academy

Asamoah Gyan is currently embroiled in an age scandal, but he is still finding time to go about his normal business.

As an old student of Accra Academy, the Shanghai SIPG player had once pledged to help with the school’s development. And it was in fulfilment of that pledge that this project is aimed at.

The project involves the construction of an $185,000 worth Astroturf field, to replace the old one at the school. The new pitch would be to international standards, would have a tartan track, changing rooms, toilet facilities, and with seats for spectators.

“It is an honour to do this for my school. Accra Academy played a crucial role in my successes as a footballer and I think I need to pay back this way.” He said.

“For me I think they laid the foundation for me. The school gave me an opportunity as a young boy who wanted to take football as a career and I believe this is something small to show them how grateful I am for what they did for me,”

Asamoah Gyan had his secondary education at the school, and his exploits led him to a career at Liberty Professionals- and subsequently all this fame and money.
