Last year, I made the editorial decision that GhanaCelebrities.Com will only cover the annual Ghana Music Awards and Ghana Movie Awards—the other awards and many pageants have proved to be a waste of time with no standing credibility.
Sending out a journalist or a reporter paid to cover these unworthy events are not worth our time, or our readers digestion and our money.
I thought I was going to regret this decision since I also added that we were not going to partner any of the many worthless award and pageant schemes but it seems I was more than right in my decision.
Once again, many have called to say; the 2015 4syte Music Video Awards was a waste of their money and time—and they say, Joselyn Dumas and John Dumelo helped to cripple the event as hosts.
The thing is, we are a nation of award ‘cherishers’ so the moment Ghanaians hear of ‘awards’, even if these awards have no credibility—everyone jumps at it.
Event organisers continue to take the piss, because all they have to do is to hand out 100 GHS to some journalists and bloggers and these writers will cloth the truth in lies—saying it was great when it was awful.
Will we grow pass this? No, as long as the journalist/blogger remains hungry and the event organiser remains desperate. And as long as our so called celebrities remain cheap, looking for an event to attend—so they can showcase their latest real or fake ‘wardrobe.’
It has always been the same for most of these awards and pageants in Ghana but each year, people turn up to consume the terrible experience they serve. And then come back to repeat the same song to us.
What’s wrong with us?
I even left the show half way cos of the following unacceptable sequences;
1. Poor time keeping, unbalanced sound engineering, disorganized stage management of performances
2. The host Dumas and John failed terribly to engage the crowd and showed no seriousness as host. It’s as if they forgot ppl paid to attend and so deserve better than dry jokes
3. It was evident there was poor preparation and coordination for the whole show
4. It is not everyone who is cut out to MC just because they are popular in town or have mega hips. Dumas paid more attention to her tight bodycon outfits than the job at hand and as for John the least said the better.
5. The organizers assumed popularity of the 2 hosts will automatically hype the show but evidently it doesn’t work that way and I for one will not be taking such shows serious ever again.
Good points; and point 4 is so true, thought about the same thing; but it’s only our beloved country whereby only famous people r seen as hosts/MCs. And I think this year in-particular was poorly coordinated, planned, etc cs I even read some tweets from Kwaw Kese not receiving an invite as a nominee or smethn of that sort.
I think the show organizers should render a serious apology for the entire mess up.
All this award shows here, there and everywhere – are they even necessary when organizers can’t even stick to simple prompt timing for the shows to start or fine professional MC’s instead of try and error ones! Ha ba!
Lol. Really apologize? Like seriously that would be the day. It will never happen in Ghana.
Chris, the show was advertised to start at 8pm so I got there at 9pm expecting the usual lateness.
THE SHOW STARTED AT 12 MIDNIGHT. To top it all off the show which was meant to be about music had terrible sound quality. NOT acceptable at all.
Then the 2 MC’s just could not stop adding insult to injury. Dumelo and miss hipster blast waaaaa dientse!
