Ghanaians last week had to deal with the unfortunate news of political violence taken overboard, again by the NPP- after a member was stabbed to death in skirmishes in Kumasi.
Police have been strenuously investigating, and according to them have arrested the main culprit. It is none other than the constituency chairman of the party in Asawase, one Isaac Brenya.
Brenya is accused of organising thugs to drive out members of a rival faction; as supposed Nana Akuffo Addo loyalists and Paul Afoko loyalists fought for control of the office.
Police have also retrieved the murder weapon, a knife; as well as arrested other accomplices. The murderer himself, identified only as Dunia; is still on the run.
Saddiq was part of supposed Nana Akuffo Addo loyalists, who got into a confrontation with a faction of Paul Afoko supporters. The former took over the constituency office, and attempted to stop the latter from re-entering the office after they had returned from Accra, where they had demonstrated for the reinstatement of the suspended party chairman.
In the fracas, the 37 year old Saddiq, a known spare parts dealer, was stabbed to death.
