When your job requires that you stay awake till 3am commentating, you would think a cup of coffee would be a must.

A veteran Chinese commentator is probably ruing his luck, after he dozed off and snored on live TV, whilst giving commentary during the UEFA Champions league game between Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.

Dong Lu, who has been a football commentator for the past twenty years, was fired quite soon after the embarrassing incident by his bosses at LeTV- the Mirror reports.

UEFA Champions League games often take place at 1845 or 1945 UTC, depending on the activation of daylight savings, and that makes the game air very early in China.

For that particular game on Wednesday, the game kicked off at 0345 Chinese time. After commentating for much of the game, Dong could be heard snoring around the 79th minute mark, which led to very amusing reactions from fans.

Dong apologised for the incident, whilst he has vowed to continue his career online. Real Madrid won the game 1-0
