Oscar Pistorius might no longer be in prison as he’s currently under house arrest– but if prosecutors would have their way, the athlete would spend much more time in prison.

Oscar was jailed in October last year for the 2013 killing of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. He shot her through the bathroom door, claiming he thought burglars had burst into the house.

The Prosecution were pushing for a murder charge, but the judge reduced it to culpable homicide; the reduced charge led to his eventual five year sentencing, which has enabled him to get out of jail after just ten months.

Earlier today (Wednesday), the appeal process to reinstate the charge of murder against the Paralympian was begun by the prosecution. The Appeals panel would consider whether to grant the motion, which could see the former world champion return to prison.
