The recent hack of the dating website Ashley Madison did not only reveal a huge bunch of hypocrites and destroy some marriages; it also revealed that there were a disproportionately tiny number of females to the males on the site.
Records displayed by the site to user assured them the site had 5.5 million women- or 30% of its population. However, the hack revealed the true number was close to around 15%, and the suit alleges it is possible that it is far less than that- around a paltry 12,000 women.
David Poyet, according to TMZ, is a former user of the site who is suing for $5m for unfair and fraudulent business practices. He says he joined because of the large number of women, but it turned out the site was just using the padded numbers to get more male customers; who then had to compete for that very small pool of women.
Poyet plans to make his suit a class action, but with many of those exposed in the hack probably working to repair their marriages, it’s probably not reasonable to expect that they’ll be interested in directing any more attention to themselves.
The dating website, which used to cater to married people who wanted to have an affair, was hacked earlier this year, exposing millions of cheats to the public- some very prominent people.
