After the release of ‘Spectre’, the most recent Bond film with Daniel Craig; Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Distribution deal for the franchise has expired- leaving the issue up for grabs.
Sony has had the deal for the highly lucrative franchise for the past decade; and there certainly would be no shortage of potential partners lining up to pick up the slack.
MGM makes the movies, but no longer distributes them to theatres, so it needs a major studio partner, the Australian reports.
Sony has made their intentions known that they would not mind continuing the relationship.
“Bond is one of the most enduring franchises in film history and we have had great success with it,” a spokesman for the company said
Sony Entertainment has released four Bond films under their current deal, in partnership with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Danjaq: including 2012’s highly lucrative Skyfall- which grossed $1.1bn at the box office.
