The so-called power barge that has led Ghanaians on a merry go round for most of this year is expected to leave the shores of Turkey on Tuesday (October 27).
The journey from Turkey to Ghana would take a fortnight to be completed, with a further two weeks needed to connect the ship to the national grid to augment the national supply by 225 megawatts.
A commissioning ceremony is to be held in Turkey before the ship sets sail, leading to an earlier deadline of Sunday being missed- local newspaper The Finder reports.
The power crisis has worsened in the past few days, after the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDco) instructed ECG to shed more power due to challenges hampering Gridco’s ability to generate the requisite power levels.
It remains to be seen what effects, if any, the arrival of the barge would have on the dumsor situation… I wouldn’t hold my breath.
