South African amputee athlete, Oscar Pistorious was freed from prison on Monday after he served just 12 months of a five-year sentence for killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.
The Paralympian, 28, is now at his uncle’s mansion where he will serve out the rest of the term under house arrest in Johannesburg, according to NBC News.
Pistorious was found guilty of culpable homicide—but the Judge acquitted him of murder over a year ago.
The two-time Paralympian fatally shot Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day in 2013, maintaining he thought that she was an intruder in his home.
Reports indicate that Pistorius will seek continued psychotherapy, and he will be consistently monitored under strict guidelines as he serves his house arrest in this uncle’s home for the next four years. Not to mention, he will also be banned from the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio.
He is also required to meet with the parents of his late girlfriend “if and when they agree to meet him”, said correctional services minister Michael Masutha.
Before her death, Reeva Steenkamp was a celebrity in South Africa and had been named as one of the 100 sexiest women in the world by men’s magazine FHM.
She was also incredibly smart, graduate of law from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in Port Elizabeth.
