The congregation of Ghanaian musician turned Pastor Ofori Amponsah has thrown their support behind his decision to return to secular music.
Some of the church members who spoke with Graphic Showbiz said they do not see anything wrong for their pastor to preach love through his song.
Reports indicate that Ofori Amponsah who is currently busy promoting his new track with Sarkodie ‘Alewa’, was not present at the church yesterday—and we cannot state categorically that it is because of his challenge which he called on people to come to his to church to see him quoting from the Bible.
From Graphic Online;
According to Godfred Frimpong, a member of Ofori Amponsah’s church who spoke with Showbiz after church service, he said that he sees nothing wrong with his pastor going back to secular music.
He said, “if other pastors can talk about love issues on air, why can’t his pastor do same through music?”
“No one was there when God called him and I know my pastor is genuine. Pastor Alewa or whatever he is called now is not a bother to me since Ofori Amponsah himself is not bothered by those comments,” he added.
To another member, Osafo Samuel, the best thing Ghanaians can do for Pastor Ofori Amponsah is to pray for him and not judge him.
“I have heard a lot of things about my pastor but that is not the reason why I would quit the church. I will be disappointed with any church member who leaves because of what is happening now,” he said.
A lady congregant who pleaded anonymity said only God can understand their pastor and not humans. According to her, God knows what he wants to use Ofori Amponsah for so no one should judge him.
For Philip Adjei, “so far as Ofori is doing the work of God, he only prays that He keeps him alive for people to see the plans He has for him.”
Philip who described Ofori Amponsah as a very strong person said, “I would have collapsed under the bashing my pastor is receiving from people if I were in his shoes. Pastor Amponsah is a very strong man to take all the comments people are passing about him.”
One of his junior pastors said he was surprised at the turn out today despite what is going on.
“I really did not expect this number of people in church yesterday. I must say I am really surprised at the turn out, I thought most of the members will not come but I very happy they did,” he added.
