Real estate magnate and the Republican front runner for President, Donald Trump is set to host the November 7 edition of the comedy show, ‘Saturday Night Live’
The decision to have Trump, who has made racist and s*xist comments by the bucketload since joining the race, has ignited a lot of protests.
An Hispanic group, the National Hispanic Leadership Agenda, has called for NBC Universal to cancel the appearance. Hispanics have often borne the brunt of Trump’s racism , having called them in the past criminals and rapists; a speech that led to NBC severing ties with him in the first place.
The group said having him on promotes his hate speech.
“We are appalled that you would enable Trump’s hateful speech for nothing (more) than a ratings ploy and ask that you rescind the SNL invitation,” the group said in a letter sent Thursday and released publicly; addressed to NBC Universal CEO Stephen Burke and “SNL” executive producer Lorne Michaels.
Meanwhile, singer Miguel has raised similar concerns. In an interview with NME magazine, he said SNL is only hosting him because he’ll bring ratings; but that ignorance does not deserve that kind of attention.
“I don’t think ignorance deserves that kind of attention,” Miguel said.
“Unfortunately we live in a world where attention is the ultimate currency.
“I think there’s a tremendous responsibility that we all have just to not be f–king ignorant.”
