Government Agencies In The Western Region Owe ECG Ghc 18m

Electricity Company of Ghana

Often times the currency change makes people not to appreciate so much the gravity of a certain amount. So in the interest of sensationalism, I have to point out that Ghc 18m is 180,000,000,000 old cedis.

Imagine if government itself, which should be the first to ensure that a national bulwark like ECG does not collapse, owes it this amount of money, in one region alone! It’s a miracle that there still exists an ECG at this point.

According to an ECG official in the Western region, government ministries, agencies, and other institutions in the region alone owes the company to the tune of Ghc 18m.

Speaking to Starrfmonline, The Western regional Commercial Manager of ECG Alex Anwobor listed the ten as the Sekondi Naval Base, Takoradi Airforce Base, 2BN Infantry, and the Effia-Nkwanta, Takoradi and Tarkwa Government Hospitals.

The rest are Takoradi Polytechnic, University of Mines and Technology and the Essipong Sports Stadium.

The biggest debtor is the 2BN Infantry with Gh¢4,315,048. The Naval Base owes Gh¢3,848,622.89 while the Airforce has Gh¢2,659,693.78 debt to clear with the Ministry of Defense struggling to pay its debt of Gh¢2,643,100.97.

The rest are Tarkwa Government Hospital (Gh¢1,198,245.09), the Takoradi Polytechnic has an amount of Gh¢952,945. 60 to clear while the Essipong Sports Stadium owes the ECG Gh¢398,871.97.
