The National Hajj Board has confirmed that three Ghanaians died in the stampede that occurred in Mina during this year’s Hajj ceremonies.

According to myjoyonline, the chairman Alhaji Rauf Tanko has confirmed the death of the three are related to the stampede. Five others are dead but ailments unrelated to the circumstances of the Mina disaster.

Three others are injured and are receiving treatments in hospitals. Committee members continue to move from hospital to hospital in search of possibly more injured pilgrims.

Over 700 pilgrims died last week after a stampede broke out during the Hajj rituals.

The stampede erupted during a ritual known as ‘stoning the devil’, where pilgrims throw stones at three pillars in a re-enactment of when the Prophet Abraham stoned the devil and rejected his temptations, according to Muslim traditions.

No Ghanaian had been confirmed dead in the stampede, until now, that is.
