Referees are supposed to be the calmest people on the pitch. When tensions are rising high, they are supposed to defuse it. They are like the bomb squad of football.
So what do you do when the bomb squad is literally, the most trigger happy on the pitch?
That’s what happened in Brazil when a referee pulled a gun during a football match. Some players of one side are reported to have been manhandling him over a red card.
Mirror UK reports the referee, “Gabriel Murta was kicked and slapped by players from lower-league Amantes de Bola”
Being a policeman by profession, he run into the dressing room and returned with a firearm.
Needless to say, his target retreated, whilst he was restrained by one of his linesmen.
Officials say the incident would be investigated and any appropriate punishment would be meted out.
Well, talk about mixing your priorities…
