The CEO of the Last Two Music Group, Edward Nana Poku Osei, known as Hammer in showbiz circles; has lashed out at people who try to rate musicians based on lyrical content.

“Music is not all about advising or politics but it is about happiness. Of course, it’s entertainment and not a platform for the righteous or anything like that; it’s entertainment, so you can’t criticize anybody for trying to make people happy.”

“Music is also not all about love, poverty, sadness, stories or proverbs. You can also have fun with it…It’s an art so I don’t think anybody should be even be thinking about lyrical content going up or low.

“We should just think about if the people are being entertained or not–If they are then the industry is growing,” Hammer told Ike Frimpong in an interview on Sky Fm’s Loud in Gh in Sunyani.

He explained that the current crop of hip life artistes and hip life music in general are at its highest peak.

“I think it is doing extremely well, we are at the BET now, we are doing so many things now and hip life is being exported all around the world, it’s great right now.”

Hammer, who is credited as one of the pioneers and key figures in the popularization of Hip life or Hip Hop in Ghana, said his boys, whom he christened the famous five; are doing exceptionally well in selling the name of Ghana through music making.

He revealed that the famous five are: Sarkodie, Obrafour, Edem, Kwaw Kese, M.anifest; and that Bisa K’dei, Guru, and most of the other artistes are doing well.

“The thing is hard work and I admire them for their hard work.”

Hammer advised upcoming artistes to learn from old mistakes and just not jump into the game, “They should learn from people who failed and be on the right path.”
