The best stand up comedians are often good thinkers. Writing material to make others laugh is often not a task for the small minded.

That’s why some comedians struggle here. They can’t write if their lives depended on it, but they can tell you their material is too corporate for you to assimilate.

Nigerian comedienne Lepacious Bose took to her instagram to lament the shallow mindedness of today’s generation. She touched on why nobody reads anymore but are just immersed in their fake lives on social media.

I know she was talking about Nigerian girls but it’s soo relevant everywhere. And Millenials, the generation of which I’m part of, are the worst offenders.

I have been lamenting about this for so loooooong when I was a teenager every girl my age read novels, in fact it was a competition to know the fastest reader and how many novels you have read. We would read on the bus, in the toilet, while eating etc now I meet young girls I NEVER EVER see them reading, they don’t even hold novels to show off, or pretend. No! they are on social media, they know who is dating who and who is wearing what. Don’t know the name of their governor but they know the name of Kanye West’s mum, don’t know the capital of katsina state but they know Kim Kardashian’s home address even the color of her toilet paint. Ask them what is happening in Syria now, they don’t know but they know Jay Z and Beyoncé had a fight this morning and why, in fact they know the details of Emeka Ike:s divorce more than Emeka and his wife, which state in Nigeria is preparing for elections right now? No they don’t know that but they can tell you where Tiwa Savage is, what she’s wearing and even what she ate for dinner. Oh no, our generation is not living up to expectation I know, but the next generation after us? They are a disaster waiting to happen….. Yet again I quote Asa, “whose responsible for what we teach our children? Is it the Internet or stars on television”? So sad….
