The ‘Mother of Dragons’ would start season six surrounded by a Dothraki horde, which is quite fitting in vein of this ‘controversy’.
Emilia Clarke, who plays Daenerys Targaryen in the HBO fantasy Game of Thrones, was recently quoted as not liking shooting nude scenes. That seemed quite funny, coming from an actress on Thrones.
“I’m British, so I cringe at that sort of thing anyway – I can’t stand it,” she said was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.
“Most s*x scenes you see in films or on TV are gratuitous and they’re usually just to attract an audience. On screen, the subtler the better.”
That seemed to be a not so subtle dig at Thrones, which often gets criticised for gratuitous and violence and s*x scenes. It is no wonder she had to backtrack and clarify.
“In drama, if a nude scene forwards a story or is shot in a way that adds insight into characters, I’m perfectly fine with it. Sometimes explicit scenes are required and make sense for the characters/story, as they do in Westeros,” she wrote on Instagram.
“If it’s gratuitous for gratuitous sake, then I will discuss with a director on how to make it more subtle. In either case, like a good Mother of Dragons, I’m always in control.”
She better be, because she’ll need it to take control of those Dothraki.
