Ghanaian film director/producer and CEO of Sparrow Productions Shirley Frimpong–Manso, has called on Akan film makers to up their game.
The award winning film-maker in a recently interview said Kumawood movies are unique on their own and the producers shouldn’t relax just because majority of Ghanaians like to enjoy them.
“Kumawood is Kumawood. I don’t think Kumawood is trying to be anything but Kumawood. Ultimately, I expect that they will improve on their craft. I like the fact that they are unique and not trying to contend. They are not trying to be anything but themselves and I always say that some of them are ridiculous while others have great storyline and production.”
She added that, “when it comes to the other side we are trying but there hasn’t been any real breakthrough. It seems well some years ago but it appears to be flat again. We are not giving up and we are going to do our best.”
“They are really doing their best, we are doing our best and Nigerians are doing their best as well, hopefully we will have a great African movie industry,” she told Flex newspaper.
