Floyd Mayweather announced his retirement from the sweet science he has spent the better of two decades dominating after his unanimous points victory over Andre Berto.
Mayweather dominated his compatriot in his final bout, moving 49-0 to equal Rocky Marciano’s record. At that point, he pulled the curtains on a hall of fame career that certainly qualifies him for a spot on the list of top pugilists of all time.
Money outpointed another boxer in a routine that’s all too familiar now. He won a unanimous victory, the three judges scoring it 117-111, 118-110, 120-108.
Mayweather called it quits immediately afterwards. There are a lot of theories that he could return for one final bout, to surpass Marciano’s record, but he argued he’s done all there is to do.
“You’ve got to know when to hang it up. I’m close to 40 now,” he said.
“There’s nothing left to prove in the sport of boxing.”
Damn straight.
