The ‘Money Man’ Floyd Mayweather Jnr is back in the ring for what he’s claiming would be his last bout early Sunday morning (Saturday night in the US).
Mayweather is slated to take on compatriot Andre Berto in the fight that is as distinguishable for its lack of hype as the Pacquiao fight was for the presence of it.
Many people has criticised Floyd’s choice of opponent for his final bout, but he maintains Berto would give him the required challenge as he attempts to retire at 49-0, matching Rocky Marciano’s legendary record.
And the difference in the calibre of opponent shows in the purse for the fight. Whilst Mayweather took home in excess of $200m for the Pacquiao fight, he’s set to pocket around $39m for this one. Berto, meanwhile, would take home $4m for his troubles.
This fight would conclude Mayweather’s fight deal with Showtime and would almost certainly represent his last hurrah in the ring.
Berto (33-3) has won his last two fights, although he has lost three of the last six. He’ll be hoping for an upset against Floyd (48-0), but is not expected to mount much of a challenge.
