Miss Universe Ghana; the Biggest SCAM in the World of Pageantry Participated By Desperate Empty Headed Young Ghanaian Women

Writing on Miss Universe Ghana is a waste of my time and space—and that is why I’ve not bothered to add my voice to the on-going Miss Universe Ghana 2015 scandal.

In 2011, Yayra-E.-Nego, a complete ‘alien’ was brought in from abroad and was presented as a ‘Ghanaian’ though she could not speak any Ghanaian language. She was shockingly crowned Miss Universe Ghana to represent Ghana— and that is when it became obvious that Miss Universe Ghana had lost its legs but each year, desperate empty headed young Ghanaians with nothing to do with their time and money continue to participate.

It emerged at the time that, Yayra E. Nego did not meet the 6 months residence requirement, had no strong connection with Ghana, that is why she could not speak any of the many Ghanaian languages. Yet she was crowned Miss Universe Ghana, to represent Ghana and serve as a Ghanaian ambassador.

Following the fraudulent crowning of Yayra E. Negro as Miss Universe Ghana 2011, I wrote an article exposing the Miss Universe rot which fetched me threats and insults from Mr.William Dedzrah, the then Communications Director of Insignia Group, the organizers and producers of Miss Universe Ghana.

The following year, a new set of ‘useless’ young Ghanaian women in search for fame and whatever signed up to participate in the 2012 Miss Universe Ghana pageant despite all that was said about the 2011 pageant.

A certain Gifty Ofori was crowned Miss Universe Ghana 2012, and the organisers promised her “a list of prizes including an official car service for her year of reign, an all expense paid trip to the 61st Miss Universe pageant in Las Vegas, Nevada, a three-month internship at the United Nations in New York, and a presentation and modelling portfolio shot by celebrity photographer Fadil Berisha in New York.”

That wasn’t all, she was also promised a “Samsung Note 3 phone tablet, four pages editorial spread in an international magazine, personal celebrity stylists in New York, Los Angeles and Accra and also management and representation by the Insignia Experience/RAC Group as well as a year of incredible experience of celebrity status and adventure. Per her contract, she was also be given a house to live in for her year of reign.”

In May 2013 while a new Miss Universe Ghana (for 2013) was about to be crowned, the previous winner-Gifty Ofori had not received literally any of the major prizes she was promised. She spoke to NewsOne at the time and said “I have only received Samsung Galaxy, my trip to represent Ghana at 61st edition Miss Universe in the US and the photo shoot I did. I have not received the vital packages.”

She added “While I was in the USA, I was waiting for internship with the UN to happen but it never happened. When I came back, I had to go out and solicit for funds for my project which I need to do. It was difficult for me because everything has to come from my pocket. Meanwhile, I have been raised to a certain standard and I have been left hanging with no one supporting me. I have always expected the two companies to let us sit down and talk about what needs to be done but nothing is happening. They don’t care about my feelings.”

After speaking to the media in relation to the fact that the organisers of Miss Universe Ghana had failed to give her the promised prizes even as at May 2013, Gifty Ofori was STRIPPED off her title as Miss Universe Ghana 2012—with the organisers claiming that, she breached a term in her contract which prohibited her from discussing certain things with the media.

If this is not the true definition of SCAM, then what else is? The organisers’ failure to provide her with the promised prizes is a clear breach of contract. If you breach a contract first, the other party is no way restricted by that contract—there isn’t even any contract at this stage.

Gifty Ofori was reported to have sued the organisers of Miss Universe Ghana the following month (June, 2013) for stripping her of her title and more importantly for not honoring their promise as far as the prize package was concerned.

In relation to the suing, Myjoyonline.com at the time “cited a writ of summons issued in the High Court of Justice on June 6, 2013 against the 2012 organizers of the pageant – Insignia Experience and Roberta Annan Consulting – for breach of contract and illegally stripping Gifty Ofori of her title.

Axis Legal, who [was] representing her in court, told Myjoyonline.com that they [were] suing the organizers because they breached a contract between them and Gifty. He stressed that the organisers had failed to deliver on the number of promises made to her. According to the legal firm, the organizers inserted certain clauses in the contract with the “intention to defraud her”.

“The organizers failed to give Gifty the prizes due her and when she complained, they stripped her of her title,” Axis Legal confirmed to Myjoyonline.com.

Axis Legal said [at the time that] they will, amongst other things, seek to get the organizers of the pageant pay or award Gifty Ofori all the prizes due her, restore her title as Miss Universe 2012 and also pay for the breach of contract.”

So we had huge problems with Miss Universe Ghana in relation to the 2011 winner and then the 2012 winner. Yet, these were still not enough to deter these credulous young women from participating, the organisers still had some unintelligent young women taking part in the 2013 edition.

Hanniel Jamin who won the Miss Universe Ghana 2013 crown also sued the organizers—for the same reasons her predecessor sued. She sued the organisers-Roberta Annan Consulting (RAC) for breach of contract.

Bella Naija at the time reported that  “Hanniel and RAC presented their cases at a Ghanaian court on Thursday 17th April 2014. Hanniel was to receive a New York Film Academy scholarship, a GH¢5,000 wardrobe allowance, a management and public relations deal, monthly fees, a year’s gym membership and a trip to the world event – which took place in Russia.

Although Hanniel, who is half-Nigerian (her mom), represented her country at the beauty competition, she says she still hasn’t received the other packages. A source in Ghana, tells BN that Hanniel was asked to sign a document under duress that she has received her packages, just before leaving Ghana for Russia. She had no witness or lawyer at the signing and her passport was allegedly seized.”

At this stage, you must be deadly insane, perhaps, a dead and rotten goat not to realize that Miss Universe Ghana is a scam—and has always been. But then again, in 2014 the organisers were able to pull different group of dim-witted young women to participate.

Abena Appiah was selected as the winner of Miss Universe Ghana 2014 at another shady annual event in Accra, judged by some ridiculous names.

GhanaCelebrities.Com is told Abena Appiah was not treated any different from the previous winners and that explains why she was not even present at this year’s Miss Universe Ghana to hand over her crown to the new winner as convention demands. Perhaps, she is also preparing to go to court, the usual suing of these scammers, called organisers…

Now, the 2015 Miss Universe Ghana has safely arrived as expected with several allegations that the winner-Hilda Akua Frimpong who was brought in from United States paid large sum of money to the organisers in order to secure to win. And that several months before the crowning event, the organisers entered into an agreement with her to handover the crown to her for a specified amount of money, which she allegedly paid.

In fact, considering the above “fine” track record of Miss Universe Ghana, you must suspend your thinking faculties not to believe the allegations being leveled against the organisers.

To me, these organisers are scammers without conscience, riding on the desperation of innocent young women in search for fame, to make some good cash for themselves. Apart from never handing over the promised prizes to the winners, Miss Universe Ghana charges ridiculous participation fees which these ‘empty heads’ continue to pay—in return for the yearly disgrace.

Next year, we will have new fools taking part in this same pageant and the cycle will repeat itself—therefore, writing on such things has become a waste of time. And I am sure you are even tired of this nonsense called Miss Universe Ghana.

  1. This pageant is a big mess. Each year there is a scam but as you said these girls are desperate so they will always take part. What do they get from these pageants apart from sleeping with older men anyway?
