The Musician Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has announced the tragic passing of legendary highlife composer and guitarist Attakora Manu.
Manu is believed to have died after battling illness for a while. The untimely event occurred in his hometown of Toase in the Atwima –Nwabiagya District of Ashanti Region.
His son, BB Attakora, confirmed the news.
Attakora Manu has a storied history in Ghana’s industry. He formed a Concert Party known as the Princess Trio between 1963 and 1966.
In 1967, he together with Kakaiku formed KAKAIKU No.2 Band.
Some of their hits are Ohoho Batani, Kookrokoo, Akwantu Mu Nsem, Akyinkyina Akyinkyin.
In 1970, he resigned from KAKAIKU No.2 Band and in 1973; he was employed as a studio attendant by Ambassador Records where he re-grouped the Princess Trio.
Attakora’s repertoire includes the Disko Highlife, Afro Highlife, Bre bre Na Eye, Pim No Bi and Mena Awurade Be Nante among others.
He also worked for a while as lead guitarist for the United Ghana Farmers Council Drama Troupe
He was 75. May he rest in peace.
