Indonesian Man Whose Name Means ‘God’ Told To Change His Name Or Be Refused Public Services

Most of us have mundane problems to deal with, like whether there’ll be electricity when you return from work or whether fuel prices would be increased or decreased arbitrarily.

However this Indonesian man has real problems to deal with.

Named Tuhan, which means God in Indonesia, the 42 year old has been asked to change his name or be denied access to important public services.

Tuhan, a carpenter, is being asked to change his name or add a prefix Abdu (servant of God), to his name.

In the interim, his identity card bearing the name Tuhan has been revoked, denying him access to important public services.

“We suggest the name change to avoid any interpretation that could lead to idolatory. Besides, the name Tuhan is unseemly from a religious point of view, ” Chairman of the East Java Council of Muslim Scholars, Abdusshomad Bukhari, is quoted as saying by IB Times UK.

Tuhan says he does not understand what all the fuss is about. He especially does not get it, since he has been using the name God since his birth.
