You remember the supposed assassin arrested for carrying a gun into the President’s church, who then got sentenced minutes after his first court appearance, has been released.
His conviction, which occurred in record time and which was obviously full of flaws, was overturned by the Human Rights Division of the Accra High Court.
The decision was overturned after the judge concluded that Justice Obiri Yeboah erred in the original trial, sentencing the man despite clear evidence of a disturbed mental state.
The judge therefore ordered his release for him to be evaluated by the Accra Psychiatric Hospital.
The judge also ruled that Justice Yeboah erred in applying a ten year sentence for an offence that carried a maximum sentence of five years.
