Usain Bolt does not mess around. He had a torrid year that had all his critics lined up to put him to bed. Main contender Justin Gatlin had been the best sprinter this year by a country mile.
Yet the Olympic and World Champion has been in blistering form since the World Championship began in Beijing. After winning a tightly contested 100m final, he made short work of Gatlin to retain his 200m crown whilst running a leading time for the year.
Bolt won the race this afternoon in 19.55s. Justin Gatlin finished 2nd once again, crossing the line in 19.74s. South Africa’s Anaso Jobodwana finished in third.
“There was never a doubt that I would win this one. I’m number one,” the Jamaican told BBC Sport after winning his 10th world title.
“I’m happy to be a 10-time World Championships gold medallist, especially when people have been saying I would lose.
“I had the utmost confidence. As long as my coach is confident, I’m super confident.”
Up next for the greatest sprinter this world has ever seen, is the 4×100 relay race with Jamaica. Gatlin and the USA would be waiting there for him as well.
