Amazingly, this continent continues to resist any efforts to be dragged into the 21st century. Rather preferring to stay under the edicts of millennia old ‘holy books’.
Seven people were jailed for six months in Senegal for supposedly being gay.
Police claim they were caught having seks during a raid, but no evidence was presented to that effect in court.
One the accused persons mom, the main prosecution witness, claimed her son was gay. She failed to show up in court, but the seven were found guilty anyway.
Defence lawyer, Abdoul Daff, said the mother’s failure to appear in court should have caused the case to collapse.
“There was neither material evidence nor testimony in order to corroborate the claims,” he said
“So, we take note of this and we will see what to do next.”
Homosexuality is illegal in 38 countries across this continent, punishable by death in four. Being killed for something appreciably present in the natural world is the height of injustice, which we probably shall never realise because we’re too obtuse on this continent.
And in this case there was even no evidence of these people’s guilt. But that’s not surprising, considering whenever these supposedly taboo subjects are on the menu everyone is whipped into frenzy and rationality is thrown out the window.
