3. Journey to The West
Another popular foreign content that was splashed on our TV screen was imported from Asia, China to be precise. Journey to the West was a Chinese mythology considered to be one of the “four great classical novels of Chinese literature.
The story hinges on the legendary pilgrimage of Buddhist monk, Xuannzang who travelled to Indian in pursuit of sacred texts together with three protectors, Sun Wonkong-the monkey, Sha wujing, Zhu Wuneng and a dragon prince (turned into a horse as a punishment), agreed to assist the monk in atonements for their sins.
The twist and turns of the journey provided the excitement to viewers. The show was later re-televised in 2000 to offer viewers another chance of enjoying this classic Chinese literature.
4. Ultimate Paradise
This was another serial drama that was in a class of its own. It was predominantly popular with the elite of the Ghanaian society. Michelle Attoh, Jazz singer Rama Brew, Kwame Sefa Kayi, and George Williams showcased an exotic aspect of drama that we are not used to.
The program depicted a glamorous aspect of Ghanaian lifestyle that was a complete departure of what we were accustomed to.
Journey to the west is still shown on Chinese Televisions till this very date. It is considered the biggest TV program in China that was ever made.
