Oscar Pistorius will not be released from prison on Friday per a decission from South Africa’s Department of Justice.
Oscar who was serving five years in prison was due to go free just ten months into that term—and then put under house arrest.
According to the South Africa’s Department of Justice, “that release is now being put on hold until his case is reviewed by a parole board because the decision to move him to house arrest came ‘too early'”
Pistorius should have served a whole ten months before he was considered for release but he was approved for parole in June, just eight months into his sentence, department spokesman Mthunzi Mhaga said.
Oscar Pistorius was sentenced to five years in prison in October last year, following the Valentine’s Day 2013 killing of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. The Blade runner said he thought intruders had entered the house, prompting him to fire.
State prosecutors are trying to get the manslaughter ruling overturned and the charge amended to murder, which would lead to a steeper sentence. Motions are set to be heard in November.
