You think you love Jesus Christ?
Meet the woman who loves him more than you—to the extent that she has married him.
An Indiana school teacher married Jesus Christ over the weekend, becoming a consecrated virgin in an elaborate white wedding.
According to NYDailyNews, “Jessica Hayes, a 38-year-old theology teacher, donned a long white dress and lace veil while tying the knot before hundreds of guests at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Fort Wayne Saturday.
Standing at the altar as a bride of Christ, she vowed a life of virginity and was given a ring, as well as a book of daily prayers.”
After the ceremony, Hayes told WANE that “I had been praying about it for years, trying to seek God’s will for my life and not really finding it in any of the paths that I sought before.”
Jessica Hayes said she did this because it gives her the best of both worlds—pretty smart right?
As a consecrated virgin, she will be able to live, teach and serve God among the public and not in a convent like most nuns.
About her wedding dress and challenges, she said; “I’ve seen so many wedding dresses over the years that I think I’ve probably changed my mind very many times.”
She continued, “I had to really consider the appropriateness of the occasion for my dress. I wanted my shoulders to be covered, and I would have to lie prostrate before the altar, so I really wanted to make sure that I was well-covered in a way that still shows the beauty of a bride.”
Consecrated virgins are a rare group within the Catholic Church.
Hayes’ own ceremony marked the first for the Fort Wayne-South Bend diocese since 1990. Worldwide there are approximately 3,000 and more than 200 in the U.S., WANE reported.
