The biggest problem with our line of thinking is that we are always waiting for someone to come and save us, we’ll never do anything to attempt to arrest our terrible conditions.
It is why we still continue to export most of our biggest resources in their raw forms at cheap prices, and then spend a fortune to buy the refined end product. We have too little focus on science, technology, and industry on this continent.
Kenyan company Green pencils are bucking that trend, at least in their own small way. The company produces pencils from old newspapers, using a sort of reverse engineering process that is as green as it gets. Wood makes paper, and now that paper would be used to make wood.
In the process, they are also creating employments for many people, including a special needs home who gather the newspapers for them thus making some income to take care of the poor kids.
