Award winning actor Morgan Freeman on Sunday lost his granddaughter Edena Hines in a horrific murder that left the 33 year old with 16 stab wounds.
In what was an apparent exorcism by her supposedly mentally disturbed boyfriend, reports indicate he was heard screaming whilst he stabbed at her, apparently to cast out some demons.
“Get out, devils! I cast you out, devils! In the name of Jesus Christ, I cast you out!”, Lamar Davenport, Hines boyfriend, yelled whilst stabbing her, an eyewitness told the New York Post.
The eyewitness called 911, but despite frantic efforts, Hines was pronounced dead on arrival at the Harlem Hospital.
Davenport was arrested at the scene by police, and was making stabbing motions towards her even after the knife had been wrestled from him and police struggled to overpower him.
“Jesus Christ is born!” he shouted maniacally over her body. Police sources report he was in the throes of a dug induced psychosis.
Hines was the granddaughter of Freeman’s first wife – Jeanette Adair Bradshaw, making her his step granddaughter, but the pair had always been unusually close.
The downbeat actor released a statement soon after the tragedy.
“The world will never know her artistry and talent and how much she had to offer,” the Oscar winner said. “Her star will continue to shine bright in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. May she rest in peace.”
May she rest in peace indeed.
