Wreckage Of Missing Indonesian Plane Found In Remote Papua

The Trigana Air ATR 42 Turboprop

The wreckage of the Indonesian plane that went missing early Sunday has been found in a remote area of Papua, reports the BBC.

Indonesia’s Transport Minister has confirmed the wreckage was found in the Bintang highlands region of Oksibil.

It is not immediately clear if anyone survived.

The wreckage was found by villagers, who told officials it had crashed into a mountain, AFP reports.

As we reported earlier today, Indonesian flight TGN267 with fifty four people on board was reported missing after it lost contact with air traffic control a mere half hour after take-off.

The Trigana Air ATR 42 turboprop lost contact over the Papua region, whilst on a flight from Sentani airport in the regional capital Jayapura, to the town of Oksibil in the south of the region.

A vigorous search was carried out for the plane, but had to be called off due to approaching darkness and bad weather.

Story developing….
