UTAG Suspends Strike Action After Government Promises To Pay Outstanding Book And Research Allowance

After an issue like this, it’s easy to see why the doctors are refusing to budge from their position. This was an issue that government had to solve, but they refused to lift a finger until the teachers went on strike.

Same with junior doctors, psychiatric nurses, the list goes on and on. If we know the right thing but would not do it until people start complaining, the what kind of system are we running?

The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has decided to suspend their one week old strike after government promised to pay the outstanding fees they were protesting about.

The book and research allowance for last year would soon be paid, after the Education Ministry announced that they have received the all clear from the Finance Ministry for the payment to be effected.

The body has thus decided to suspend the strike, although it plans to go back if the promised payments doesn’t materialise.
