Building Under Construction Collapses In Accra: One Dead, Seventeen Rescued From Rubble

Tragedies of this sort are nothing new to note when you have such a shoddy system of inspection.

I remember writing on a similar story last year. In this one as well eyewitnesses note the building looked ungainly, but nobody was interested in it until people died.

Citifmonline reports a three story building under construction at Cantonments in Accra collapsed on Saturday. The owner of the building is believed to have died in the collapse, whilst rescue efforts since has managed to extricate seventeen people from the rubble.

One person is still believed to be trapped under the rubble.

Some of the workers and eye witness have attributed the collapse of the building to weak pillars which they say gave in to the weight of the building.
